Act fast on a fresh stain

The first reflex with a fresh stain is to blot, never rub. With a clean, dry microfibre cloth, absorb the liquid by pressing gently, from the edge of the stain towards the centre to stop it spreading. Rubbing, on the contrary, spreads the stain and pushes it deep into the fibre, making it far harder to remove afterwards. The sooner you act, before the liquid dries and soaks into the foam, the higher your chances of removing it completely.

Fabric or leather: different treatment

The type of upholstery completely changes the method. On a fabric seat, a gentle interior cleaner with a soft brush is often enough to lift surface dirt; work in light circular motions then absorb with a microfibre. On leather, it's the opposite: avoid excess water and harsh products that dry out and crack the material. Use a dedicated leather cleaner, applied to the cloth rather than straight onto the seat, and finish with a nourishing balm to keep it supple.

Treating common stains: coffee, soda, grease, mud

Each stain has its own logic. Coffee and tea come out better with a slightly warm cleaner applied quickly. Sodas, sticky from sugar, need careful rinsing to avoid a tacky residue that re-attracts dust. Greasy stains (chips, make-up, sunscreen) need a mild degreaser or a little dry absorbent powder on fabric. Dried mud must first be brushed dry and vacuumed before any wet work, otherwise you spread it. In all cases, work in successive light touches rather than soaking the seat.

Ground-in and old stains

Coffee dried for weeks, forgotten soda, sweat marks, old watermarks or stains of unknown origin: this dirt has penetrated deep into the seat foam. A simple surface clean is no longer enough — the stain reappears, wicking back up as the seat dries (migration effect). For these cases, you need a deep shampoo with extraction: the machine injects a cleaning solution into the fibre then immediately vacuums it out with the dissolved dirt, cleaning the foam to its core. It's the only truly effective method on old stains.

Removing odours, not just stains

A stain is visible; an odour is sneaky. Sweat, spilled food, pets, damp or tobacco soak into the foam and carpet and return as soon as it gets warm. Masking with an air freshener solves nothing: you must treat the source. A shampoo with extraction removes the organic matter responsible, and for stubborn odours, an ozone treatment neutralises the odour molecules at the heart of the cabin, with no chemicals. It's radical for smokers' cars or those carrying animals.

When to call a professional

For heavily stained seats, lingering odours or a 'like-new' result, home cleaning quickly shows its limits. Our professional seat shampoo, available right at your home in Luxembourg, extracts dirt deeply with an injection-extraction machine and restores the seats' original look. It's ideal before a resale (a clean cabin clearly boosts the vehicle's value), after buying a used car, or simply to restore a healthy interior. If in doubt about the material or the nature of the stain, it's better to trust a professional than to risk damaging the upholstery.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove a coffee stain from a fabric seat?+

Blot immediately with a dry microfibre, from the edge to the centre, then apply a gentle, slightly warm interior cleaner. For an old stain, only a shampoo with extraction truly removes it.

Can I clean a leather seat with water?+

Avoid excess water on leather: it can stain and dry out the material. Use a dedicated leather cleaner applied to a cloth, then a nourishing balm to keep it supple.

Why does a stain reappear after drying?+

It's the migration effect: the stain embedded in the foam wicks back to the surface as it dries. A surface clean isn't enough — deep extraction is needed.

Is seat shampooing done at home?+

Yes, we carry out professional seat shampooing right at your home in Luxembourg, with an injection-extraction machine that deep-cleans the dirt thoroughly.
