Alcantara is a technical microfibre widely used on steering wheels, gear knobs, sport seat inserts and headliners in sporty or premium vehicles (GTI, RS, M, AMG, Porsche...). Unlike fabric, it doesn't fray but compacts: repeated hand friction on the wheel or thigh contact on seats gradually flattens the fibres, producing that characteristic shiny look. Overly aggressive cleaning or a hard brush makes this worse instead of fixing it.
Our method: gentle cleaning, without soaking the material
We use a soft-bristle brush and a product specifically designed for Alcantara, applied in light circular motions, never soaking the material. Excess water can damage the adhesive backing beneath the microfibre. This method removes ingrained dirt and restores volume to compacted fibres, without damaging them or fading the colour.
Steering wheel, sport seats, headliner: the most affected areas
The steering wheel and gear knob are the first areas to show wear, being in constant contact with hands. Sport seat centre inserts and the headliner follow, especially with sweat or repeated friction. On light colours, dye transfer from jeans also leaves characteristic blue marks that a regular clean won't fully remove.
Mixed leather/Alcantara seats: one pass is enough
Many sport seats combine leather bolsters and stitching with an Alcantara centre panel. In that case, a simple clean of both materials is enough: unlike leather alone, Alcantara doesn't need an extra conditioning step after cleaning.
