On contact with your bodywork, these particles act like sandpaper and create circular micro-scratches — the classic 'spider-web' effect (swirl marks) especially visible in sunlight on dark, black or midnight-blue paint. Over time, these micro-scratches dull the clear coat and age the car prematurely.
Touchless high-pressure wash: better, but limited
High-pressure jet wash bays (brushless) avoid direct contact and therefore scratches, which is already progress. But the jet alone doesn't lift everything: greasy grime, insect marks, tree sap, dried droppings or dirt ground into the sills resist.
